The JEM Theater
This is where I saw Star Wars when I was a kid.
JEM Theater
The JEM theater is the only movie theater in Fillmore County, Minnesota. This is also where I saw Star Wars. I can still remember the opening shot of the Imperial cruiser chasing the Rebel ship and just being amazed. Wow!
The theater isn't that wide. It's about seven or eight seats on each side of the aisle. I remember the theater added five rows in the front in the late 1970s. The seats had an ugly circus clown faces on the ends, and were leftovers from the 1940s.
The lobby has a real box office with a window that faces out to the street, but the tickets are sold inside. The concession stand sells pop for $1.50 and candy bars for .75 or a $1.00.
Once when my parents went to a movie, the owners wouldn't let me in. I was in kindergarten and the movie was rated "R." That wasn't a problem. The owners offered to babysit me while my parents watched the movie. So I got to have some popcorn and pop, help with selling candy, and got to go up to the projection booth when they changed the reel.
The JEM only has shows on weekends, and a couple times a year the owners take a weekend off for a vacation or something. Admission is only $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children. It's a really neat little theater.
